Foiled: Guard kills robber in attempt to loot cash van

A robber was killed, while an alleged gangster was shot dead in a separate encounter.

A security guard of the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) foiled a cash van robbery and killed one of the robbers on Wednesday. Meanwhile, an alleged gangster was gunned down in a police encounter.


cour suspects riding on two motorcycles tried to intercept the van, but the driver sped up the vehicle. As a result, the armed men opened indiscriminate fire at the van, injuring 45-year-old cashier Akbar, son of Aziz. The van's security guard returned fire, killing one of the four robbers while his companions escaped.

The body of the robber was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was identified as Sagheer alias Nannu. Police officials said that the deceased was a resident of Sacchal Goth and had been involved in multiple cases of robbery and snatching.

The case has been registered and further investigation is underway.

In a separate incident, an alleged gang member was killed in a police encounter on the outskirts of the city. The encounter occurred when Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) police conducted a raid at a criminal hideout in Gulshan-e-Maymar after a tip-off. The policemen came under attack and fired back in retaliation. One suspect was killed during the exchange of fire, while his three companions managed to escape.

The body was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was identified as Shaukat alias Shani. AVCC officials said that the deceased gangster was a member of the Sajjad Khatri group and was involved in multiple crimes including the target killing of policemen, kidnapping for ransom and extortion. The case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
