Flogging video controversy

Nadir El-edroos April 19, 2010

LONDON: Whichever way one looks at it, the controversy regarding the flogging video as encapsulated in Awab Alvi’s article ‘Flogging my sentiments (April 17) the prognosis is depressing. In case it is real, we as a society failed to protect the girl. And if it is fake, those who made it took advantage of a girl and used her fake screams to whip up public sentiment. Again, if it is real, why did we have to wait for actual footage to tell us of the barbarism of the Taliban? And if it were fake, those who made it know just how to influence and manipulate public sentiment.
