PESHAWAR:

A cardiologist kidnapped from Warsak Road three days ago was rescued in a raid while a suspect guarding the doctor was also arrested, according to the police.

Addressing a news conference, SSP (Operations) Najeebur Rehman Bagvi said Dr Muhammad Asghar was kidnapped on August 31 as he was en route to Hayatabad. Dr Asghar was with his children and wife when he was intercepted at gunpoint and forced to get out of the vehicle. He was then bundled up into another car and driven to a house after a 20-minute drive.

Bagvi added the doctor was found in a raid at 4am on Tuesday while a person guarding him was also apprehended from Gulazbad, in the jurisdiction of Khazana police station.

“Dr Asghar is a senior doctor at Hayatabad Medical Complex,” said Bagvi, adding the arrested suspect was expected to divulge more information about his accomplices.
