ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, in his address to the joint session of Parliament on Tuesday, said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) were trying to take over the National Assembly in the name of democratic protests.

The interior minister began his speech by pointing out the sad state of affairs in Pakistan, however, he affirmed his belief that this time will soon pass as the whole nation - along with the Parliament - is against the protests taking place in the federal capital.

Further, Nisar alleged that the methods of PTI and PAT were both illegal and unlawful according to the orders of high courts and said they should have remained within the boundaries of the Constitution.

The interior minister stated that PTI and PAT are trying to take over the Parliament in the name of ‘democratic protests’.

Moving on, Nisar stated that when PTI and PAT members came to request permission for these marches, permission was granted with reluctance since we had our reservations.

"PTI took further permission to proceed towards Margalla, which too was granted with reservations."

He quoted PTI chief Imran Khan as saying, "It is my solemn promise that we will not move further".

"They went against their promise," he said, adding that weapons were also used during the protest.

Nisar then mentioned yesterday's attack on PTV headquarters, saying, "eight cameras were stolen, each costing a hefty 0.7 to 0.8 million."

"PTV speakers were stolen and a female reporter's bag and mobile phone, too, were stolen."

"This is not Inqilab, this is terrorism", said the interior minister.

He also condemned the attack on the police force and questioned how PTI and PAT leaders have the audacity to state that none of the protesters were from their party.

Concluding his speech, Nisar suggested that Imran and Qadri should be called to Parliament to be questioned about their behaviour.

Choudhry Sahib: you have failed to safeguard the sanctity of the State and its institutions. Why did you let the miscreants get to where they could attempt to take over the PTV station, where they could intrude into the President's House, where they could use a crane to break the door of the President House, where they could occupy the lawns of the Parliament House? Since you have appeased the anti-State and subversive elements, you have no right to rule. The State comes before you, your Party, and your Government. Whose fear caused you to let the miscreants do subversive activities?
