
At least one person died and four others were reported missing after a fishing boat from Karachi capsized near the coast of Gwadar, Balochistan, officials and rescue sources said on Saturday.
According to Express News, the ill-fated boat had set out from Karachi and was carrying six fishermen from the neighbourhoods of Ibrahim Hyderi, Ali Akbar Shah Goth, and Machhar Colony. The vessel capsized under unknown circumstances, triggering a search and rescue operation in the area.
Among the victims were a father and son. The body of the father, Ayub, was recovered from the sea, while his son Zeeshan remains missing. One fisherman was rescued and survived the incident, reportedly in a stable condition.
The Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum urged authorities to expedite the rescue operation. “We call on the government and maritime agencies to intensify search efforts to locate the missing fishermen,” said Kamal Shah, the forum’s media coordinator.
Rescue efforts were ongoing till the filing of this report. The cause of the accident remains unclear, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
