RAWALPINDI: The Army on Monday evening rejected assertions that they were backing either the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) or the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in any way during the current standoff.

In a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations, it “categorically rejected the assertions that Army and ISI were not backing the protesters.”

“Army is an apolitical institution and has expressed its unequivocal support for democracy at numerous occasions.”

The statement added that it was unfortunate that Army was being dragged into such controversies.”

“Integrity and unity of the Army is its strength which it upholds with pride.”

The army’s statement came after PTI President Javed Hashmi had alleged that there was some possible support to the PTI and PAT supporters.

Pak military is there to root out terrorists and defend Pak borders against external threats. Police is assigned to enforce the law within the borders on the order of govt including arresting trouble makers and removing sit-ins. Do not blame army for govt's own weakness and short sight. @drwaheeduddin

@Bilal: The problem is not the 46 crore rupee watch, but the fact that it is bought with the money extorted from the poor people of Pakistan.
