MANSEHRA: A pregnant woman has filed a case against her in-laws accusing them of subjecting her to severe violence for “refusing to accept their unlawful demands,” said the police on Sunday.

Nazeeran Bibi*, 22, told the Mansehra police she got married to Waqas, a resident of Chamhora Ghazikot, around eight months ago. However, Waqas and her father-in-law Noor Zaman allegedly began misbehaving with her from the first week of marriage. According to Nazeeran, she was beaten on several occasions by Zaman because he allegedly wanted to develop sexual relations with her and she refused his advances.

“He (Zaman) attempted to harass me several times but failed because I made it clear that I would not submit to his pressure and would complain to my parents,” Nazeeran told police.

Nazeeran said since the day she got married, she was routinely thrashed and humiliated by her in-laws for refusing to submit to their will, even when she was nearly eight months pregnant. The woman claimed her parents were aware of the hardships she was facing but still forced her to stay with her in-laws.

Nazeeran added a couple of days ago she asked her in-laws to take her to a doctor but Zaman, her brothers-in-law Iqbal and Adil and their mother Zulekha began beating her and then threw her out of the house in a semi-conscious state.

“When my brothers Azeem and Shehzad came to my rescue, Waqas’s family assaulted them too and implicated them in a false criminal case,” said Nazeeran.

The police have registered a criminal case against the accused on the complaint of the victim and she has been admitted to a hospital.
