Due rights Over 200 LHWs protest delayed payments

More than 200 lady health workers and supervisors working under the National Health Programme in Karak protested on Saturday over not being paid for the past several months. They blocked Indus Highway at Jail Chowk for all types of traffic and chanted slogans in favour of their demands.

Lady health supervisors Zakia, Kalsoom and others said while speaking to the media that they had worked door-to-door for the sake of public health. In return, they said, their salaries had been kept pending for several months.

The LHWs said they were not demanding any additional facilities, just what they rightfully deserve. They also added that the government had announced regularising them earlier, but no notification in this regard has been issued as yet.

Traffic police unsuccessfully attempted to negotiate with the health workers, after which Assistant Commissioner Karak Hafiz Attaul Munam and MPA Gul Sahib Khan came to assure them of the fulfilment of their demands. Afterwards, the LHWs dispersed peacefully and the road was opened for traffic.
