LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge on Saturday dismissed the after-arrest bail of a man who is accused of blasphemy.

Petitioner Muhammad Bilal told the judge that he was innocent and that the police and the complainant had connived against him.

Counsel for the complainant told the additional and district judge that there was surveillance camera footage proving that Muhammad Bilal had desecrated Holy Quran.

However, counsel for the petitioner said that the investigation officer for the case had not recovered any footage in this regard.

Hammad Muhafiz had filed a blasphemy case against Muhammad Bilal under Section 295-B (defiling the Holy Quran) with the Naseerabad police.

He said that a man who came to offer prayers at Jamia Mosque Ghazian in Gulberg III found a Quranic verse in the washroom.

A few days later on April 19, another man found Quranic verses in the washroom but the mosque’s management could not figure out who was responsible for it.

The management of the mosque had then installed a surveillance camera. On April 19, the washroom’s door was locked for several minutes, they broke down the door and found Bilal carrying Quranic verses in the washroom.
