Police foiled a possible terror bid in Hangu district and arrested two suspected militants, recovering weapons and hand grenades from their possession.
Addressing a news conference on Saturday, DSP Falak Nawaz Bangash said they signalled two motorcyclists en route from Merobak Banda to Hangu Bazaar to pull over at Kach Phattak, but the men sped away. The police then gave chase and arrested both men, Atif and Fatah Gul.
Bangash said the suspects belonged to a militant outfit and intended to carry out a sabotage plot in Hangu Bazaar. He claimed they could have targeted a mosque, imambargah or a prominent businessman to disrupt peace in the district.
The DSP said cases have been registered against both men under the anti-terror act.
Meanwhile, khasadars arrested two suspected militants in Jamrud Bazaar during a joint search operation with security forces on Saturday.
A political administration official of Jamrud said they received an intelligence report about two suspected militants present in Jamrud Bazaar, following which they reached the site and launched a joint search operation.
He added they sealed the bazaar and arrested two suspects, Nawaz Khan, resident of Karonkhel, and Umraz Khan. They also impounded a van and a motorcycle from their possession. The suspects were put behind bars and an investigation is under way.
