KARACHI:

Five men lost their lives in random acts of killings in the city on Friday.

Three people were killed while another was injured in Malir's Bakra Peri area when four unidentified armed men riding motorcycles shot at them within the limits of Malir City police station.

SHO Imtiaz Niazi told The Express Tribune that the four men were setting their toll tax point when four men on two motorcycles opened fire at them. Two of them, Javed and Abdul Fateh, died on the spot while Aman Chand and Zahid sustained bullet injuries. They were taken to a nearby hospital where Aman Chand succumbed to his injuries.

Niazi said that the men were working for Ameer Bhambori, a leader of the Sindh National Party. "It appears to be one of the usual disputes occurring at the toll tax points of Bakra Piri," he said.

Meanwhile, a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) employee was killed in the Nayi Abadi area within the limits of Saeedabad police station. Thirty-five-year old Abu Bakar, belonging to the PAF's civilian cadre, was shot dead by two unidentified men who managed to flee the scene. A total of five bullets were shot, out of which three or four hit Abu Bakar. His body was taken to Civil hospital for medico-legal formalities.

According to the police, Abu Bakar had a personal enmity over a plot dispute, and had already once been injured in a shootout in Saeedabad in 2011. He had registered an FIR against Asad alias Gullu, a resident of the area, with the Saeedabad police at that time.

In another incident, 70-year-old Siraj and 26-year-old Abdul Nabi were attacked by unknown assailants near Jamali Goth on Friday. Both sustained bullet injuries and were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Siraj succumbed to his injuries.

Police said that Siraj, a resident of Hyderabad, had come to Karachi to meet his daughter, who is married to Abdul Nabi. The attackers, who had been waiting for them near the graveyard, fled the scene after firing at them. The police handed the body over to the family after completing legal formalities.
