No respite: Dengue count inches closer to 100

Two new patients diagnosed with Dengue virus in Swat valley

The dengue count in Swat rose to 92 after two new patients were diagnosed with the virus in the valley on Thursday.


Abdul Aziz, 35, a resident of College Colony, and Muhammad Khitab, 44, a resident of Skha Cheena in Amankot, tested positive for the virus after they were brought to Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital, said the facility’s focal person for the dengue unit, Roshan Ali.


He said five patients are presently admitted to the hospital while 87 have been discharged after recovering completely.


Meanwhile, Pakistan Red Crescent Society, the district administration and school children from Rahimabad participated in a dengue awareness walk on GT Road, holding banners inscribed with different information regarding dengue.


Last year, over 9,000 people suffered from the virus and 37 lives were lost, according to official records. The unofficial death toll, however, indicates 63 people lost their lives to dengue last year.
