The largest opposition party held a meeting in Dubai to discuss the country's political situation late Wednesday night, and urged all parties involved to resolve their issues without recourse to violence and disruption of public life.
During the meeting, was jointly chaired by Co-Chairperson of the PPP Asif Ali Zardari and Patron-in-chief Bilawal Bhutto, Zardari stressed that the current political crisis be addressed through dialogue and within the framework of the Constitution.
The meeting also condemned the murders in Model Town, Lahore, on June 17, 2014, and demanded that an FIR be expeditiously registered in accordance with the law.
The party observed that any unconstitutional path taken to resolve the current stalemate would be detrimental to the future of democracy and stability in Pakistan.
The co-chairman noted with concern that instead of focusing on providing relief to a million citizens of North Waziristan, who have been displaced following the ongoing military offensive in the region, both the provincial and federal governments have entangled themselves and Pakistan in a protracted dispute that was eminently avoidable.
He lauded the services and sacrifices of the brave soldiers who were fighting on the front lines of terrorism, and hoped that the country would soon be rid of this menace.
During the meeting, party members said that the long overdue electoral reforms should be taken up by a parliamentary committee to and completed after broad consultation, within a stipulated time frame.
PPP leaders also demanded that the kidnapped sons of Yousaf Raza Gilani and late Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer be recovered as soon as possible.
Zardari valorised the services of Gilani, and his family’s sacrifices in support of the party as well as democracy. The party recalled the sacrifices made by its leaders, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, and innumerable party workers who laid down their lives in order keep democracy alive in Pakistan.

The issue is that we already had one march whilst PPP government were in charge. It was more of the same from PMLN and now we have another only this time the govt gave permission to shoot unarmed civilians.
Shahbaz Sharif should respect the office and leave. Not put his nephew in his place either. How can a prime minister hold multiple ministries? And his brother? How can their daughter be in charge of a fund of 100m US dollars? How can they collect salaries of teachers who supposedly work at closed down schools? Are they that ghareeb and struggling to pay their electricity bills? Why are our politicians conducting meetings abroad and not in national assembly?
The PM goes on about democracy but how often does he show up to assembly to respect it? He wants us to respect it only when his job and pockets is on the line. He doesn't believe in it, he knows also there is no opposition. So he will just stay at home with his feet up.
The media can downplay the numbers all they want. The support for this march is millions. The reports everywhere are they were blocking of major roads to prevent others from joining.
Why is it that these so called political party leaders are super rich and their children take their places when they are done? Why do their families have huge stakes in politics? The answer to these questions is what we all know. They are corrupted with greedy insolence. I support PTI. I support the vision for a new Pakistan.
. PPP and it's dynastic politics has been part of the problem in Pakistan. Let us not forget that it was PPP which pushed for the laws in the NA to make party chairman the sole dictator, instead of elected party members answerable to the people who elected them, they are forced to be subservient to the wishes and the whims of the party chairman. One will not see this kind of under handed laws in any democracy in the world. These people has the audacity to be talking about democracy sitting in Dubai.
its time for PPP to hold some Jalsa in Punjab it will help to defuse current stupidity.
People of Paksitan should be careful of PPP as it is part of ruling party PML(N) and waiting for its turn to rule people of pakistan . None of this two parties wants to serve people of pakistan and wants to serve their own agenda to make more money.
PPP and Nawaz League are the benefitairies of the current system It is the Pakistan and its people who are suffering under this system. It should and will go if not now then later. IK and Qadri are doing a great service to Pakistan. May Allah help them. Ameen.
@Chengez K: Do you know that there is an MNA (and a party head), who cannot even meet and discuss political issues in the parliament? Both Imran and Nawaz have make mockery of the constitution, rule of law, and democracy. Both played politics behind corrupt Iftikhar Chaudhry, and now they are dragging armed forces into politics. Very shameful attitude.
Very balanced statement. One of the saner voices in Pakistan. Bottom line is that: (1) No one should be allowed to impose its will on others as PTI is trying; (2) Government runs under checks and balances, not as absolute monarchy, unlike PMLN; (3) Police should not be a militant wing of a particular party.
Is this the main opposition part of Pakistan?
Which cannot even meet & discuss Pakistan's issues in Pakistan?
Time for change has come
Long Live Pakistan
The PPP has made a very sensible statement, it is within the government's hands to end the long march by negotiating certain points that could satisfy all parties instead of high handed ways. The death of the fourteen people must be investigated, no further delays in the registration of an FIR. Shahbaz Sharif, should give in his resignation as would be the case under such circumstances in proven and well established democracies. An independent committee be formed to study IK's claims of election rigging is long overdue.
Indeed, this march ought not to have taken place if grievances, legitimate, had been attended to without the arguably intended delays by government, provincial as federal. The tamashas we are seeing as a result, are very sad for the country.
Apparently PPP is the largest opposition party in Pakistan as per this article.
Why did they have the meeting in Dubai?
Both the parties should continue dialogues this is better for pakistan no unconstitutional movement will be accepted by the peoples of paksitan
