Two stalwarts have thrown their weight behind Dr Tahirul Qadri and will now be amongst his negotiating team to put forward the party’s demands to the government.
Sitting outside Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief’s containers in a black Pajero, Ghulam Mustafa Khar who was once a part of Pakistan Peoples Party and Sardar Assef Ahmad Ali who recently resigned from PTI, put little confidence in the present democratic setup and seek army’s intervention to settle the issue once and for all.
Talking to The Express Tribune, both the stalwarts expressed their opinion of letting the army intervene in this present crisis and urged that fresh elections should be held.
Narrating his experience Khar explained that fair elections cannot be held in the country without the army’s intervention. “The present governing system only supports the elite class of the society,” he added.
“Qadri’s mission is noble and he is right to say that under the present parliamentary system we cannot expect any change,” Khar maintained.
In response to a question the former Punjab governor said that they were not against democracy but currently there is no democratic system. “We need drastic change in this autocratic order,” Khar said.
Grinding his teeth in anger, Khar said that the country was under the worst democratic order. “Do you think this is democracy?” he questioned.
Citing the Model Town incident, both the leaders believed that the present government has no legitimacy to stay in power. On June 17, the Punjab police clashed with PAT workers in the Model Town area of Lahore.
The clashes turned deadly when 14 PAT activists were killed in police firing.
