FAISALABAD:

Police claimed on Wednesday to have killed a robber during an encounter in Peoples Colony, Faisalabad.

They said that two policemen had also been injured in the encounter.

City Police Officer (CPO) Sohail Tajik said a police patrol was on routine duty when they signalled two suspects to stop.

The men fired on the patrol instead and fled. Police pursued the men and a shootout ensued during which one of the suspects was killed and two policemen were injured.

Abdul Hafeez and Umair Arshad, the injured policemen, were taken to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in critical condition.

Tajik said a police team had been constituted to arrest the absconding suspect.

He said police were trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased.

Regional Police Officer Ahmed Tufail visited the DHQ hospital to enquire about the well-being of the injured policemen.
