PESHAWAR: The K-P government has announced plans to construct seven high-security prisons in the province, said a statement issued from the Home and Tribal Affairs department on Wednesday. Dispatched from the office of Home Secretary Syed Akhtar Ali Shah, the handout said that besides the construction of a high-security prison in Mardan, six more will be constructed in DI Khan, Kohat, Bannu, Lower Dir, Haripur and Mansehra. “As soon as the prison in Mardan is completed, high-profile inmates will be shifted via helicopter, where they will be kept in 127 specially designed cells under three-layered security walls, with the boundary wall being bomb and bulletproof,” read the statement. It added the contractor tasked with constructing Mardan prison has been directed to complete it by August 31.
