SUKKUR:

The city police raided the 'katcha' area of Raza Goth police station on Tuesday and safely recovered four persons who had been kidnapped a week ago.

The large police contingent, led by SSP Sukkur Tanveer Hussain Tunio, responded to a tip-off and cordoned off the area. The kidnappers opened fire on seeing the police and, after an exchange of fire, they escaped into the dense forest, leaving the kidnapped men behind. A police party chased the kidnappers and police sources said that arrests will probably be made soon.

The recovered men are Muhammad Saleem, Munawar Hussain and Muhammad Waseem from Karachi, and Rab Nawaz Arain from Bahawalpur. All four men had been lured into buying cheap animals and were subsequently kidnapped from within the limits of Baiji police station on August 12.

Tunio told The Express Tribune that this was the first time that police had gone and encamped in the forest of Raza Goth.

He said that the police had earlier arrested some relatives of the kidnappers, putting the captors under tremendous pressure, adding that the police is now encamped in the area and will remain there till the last criminal is removed.

DIG Sukkur Javed Alam Odho has announced a reward of Rs200,000 along with certificates of commendation for the police party.
