The Queen turns down lead role in Italian film

With six projects lined up, actor Kangana Ranaut is booked till early 2016.

It’s a battle of film choices for actor Kangana Ranaut, who has been receiving offers from across the world following her well-acclaimed stint in Vikas Bahl’s Queen (2014). What may be a shocker for an industry vying for roles in international films, Kangana recently turned down a lead role in an Italian film offered to her opposite actor Massimiliano Gallo, reported bollywood.com.

“Kangana read the script, liked the subject and communicated it to the makers. However, she opted out of the project in the second week of August citing date issues,” said a source. “The film is to go on the floors in the next two months and she didn’t want to disrupt her prior commitments.” The actor’s spokesperson confirmed the development: “Kangana was offered the role opposite Massimiliano in an Italian film, but she had to turn it down as her dates are completely blocked.”

Kangana was presented with the chance to star in the film while she was pursuing a filmmaking and screenplay-writing course in the United States. According to a source, “Director Edoardo De Angelis got in touch with her, but she said that she’d take a call only after returning to Mumbai.” In an earlier interview, Kangana confirmed, “I was offered the lead role opposite Massimiliano.” She added, “I have almost six projects lined up and that has me booked till the beginning of 2016.”

Having opted for unique roles such as that of a troubled model in Fashion (2008) and a crass politician in Revolver Rani (2014), Kangana has been selective about the characters she depicts. We hope her upcoming projects make up for this lost opportunity.
