SUKKUR:

A woman was strangled to death by her husband in the village of Bello Samejo, Ghotki, on Monday morning within the limits of the Bello Mirpur police station.

According to sources, Mazhar Ali Samejo had an argument with his wife, after which he strangled her and fled. The police took the body to a taluka hospital for the post-mortem and then it was handed over to the family for the burial. No case was registered till the filing of this report.

While talking to the media at the hospital, the woman's father Habibullah Samejo claimed that Mazhar killed his wife over a domestic issue. He said that he will file an FIR after his daughter's funeral.

Sources believe that the murder was the result of a karo kari dispute. The family, however, maintains that the couple fought over a domestic issue to avoid lodging an FIR on behalf of the state. The police said that they are investigating the case.

Around four years ago, police officials had asked SHOs to register FIRs in karo kari cases on behalf of the state to ensure the culprits get punished.

Many families, however, report these cases as domestic disputes and prefer an out of court settlement.  This often means that the culprits go free.
