PUNJAB: The dengue virus continues to hold its sway over Punjab, as 223 new cases have been reported over the last 24 hours.

According to sources, the total number of patients in the province has reached up to 3, 312.

An acute shortage of platelet kits in many government hospitals is aggravating the plight of patients tested positive for dengue.

In Lahore, about 125 patients are under treatment, whereas new patients are facing difficulties regarding their enrollment in special wards.

Meanwhile, the provincial health department has rejected reports of a shortage of platelet kits, saying that there are enough facilities available in every government hospital.
