BAHAWALPUR:

Police on Saturday registered a case against two employees of the Excise and Taxation Department in Bahawalpur for allegedly embezzling funds.

Muhammad Ahmad Khan, Senior Excise and Taxation officer, said that a clerk, Ahsan Ikhlaq, and data entry operator, Muhammad Maki, were accused of embezzling funds collected by the Motor Registration Authority.

Khan said Excise Inspector Masoodul Hassan Qureshi conducted an inquiry against the two.

“The inquiry found that they had not deposited Rs3.2 million in the national treasury and kept the amount for themselves,” Khan said.

Cantonment police have registered a case against the two on Khan’s complaint.
