Tribal elders of 19 union councils formed a committee under the leadership of MPA Mufti Syed Janan to demand that every household of the district be provided with gas.
The committee, called Hangu Rights, gathered at the office of the deputy commissioner on Friday and expressed complete confidence in Janan’s leadership.
The elders said there were huge gas reserves in Hangu and pinpointed eight locations that could be excavated for the natural resource. They added that only three union councils and the main city were supplied gas, while other areas remained deprived.
Tribal elders shared their view that the government wanted Hangu to remain a backward region and cited that as the reason for a gas project never being initiated.
