On the instruction of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, PIA had started special flights to Libya to bring back stranded Pakistanis. The PIA Boeing-747 relief flight from Libya arrived at Allama Iqbal Airport, Lahore around noon, carrying 500 passengers.
Upon their arrival in Lahore, the expats thanked the government and appreciated PIA for operating the flight in a war zone.
PIA spokesperson said that more flights to Libya will be operated on the instructions of government.
Between 6,000 and 8,000 Pakistanis out of an estimated 18,000 living in Libya were stranded, according to a report.
Earlier, a crisis management cell was created at the ministry of foreign affairs to monitor the evolving security situation in Libya and to coordinate efforts for evacuation of Pakistanis.
The cell was created after the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed the ministry to facilitate the evacuation of Pakistanis from Libya.

Everyone talks negative about PIA. But no one praises it when it undertakes most risky and heroic jobs like flying into war zones. Has anyone got the guts to instruct Shaheen and Airblue to fly into war zone and that also at its own cost as a public service.
One question how Pakistani got stranded there in such a large no. ?were they doing jobs ??
