PESHAWAR: At the programme arranged at Peshawar Railways Cantonment to see off the Azadi Train from Peshawar on Wednesday, PML-N provincial president Pir Sabir Shah said the locomotive symbolises unity.

However, most of Shah’s address was geared towards those who he claimed were trying to create divisions within the country on regional, linguistic and sectarian lines.

In an apparent reference to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s call to march to Islamabad, Shah said, “Our unwise friends are creating anarchy and chaos in the country.”

He said Pakistan held a strategically important position in the region, and “certain hidden hands want to destabilise the path of development the country is on.”

Lauding the prime minister’s speech on Tuesday, Shah said Nawaz Sharif’s overtures of peace should be taken in a positive light.

Shah was flanked by PML-N provincial general secretary Rahmat Salam Khattak and MPA Akbar Hayat Khan. The Azadi Train, decorated with flags and lights, will travel from Khyber to Karachi. One of its prime objectives is to pay tribute to the Shuhada of Pakistan’s armed forces.
