ISLAMABAD:

A seven-member joint investigation team (JIT) chaired by the DIG west has been constituted to conduct a thorough investigation into the murder of Orangi Pilot Project’s former director Perween Rehman in March 2013.

The announcement was made by the Sindh police and coincides with efforts by the Supreme Court to address the matter.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and other rights groups and activists are petitioners in the case. Raheel Kamran Sheikh, counsel for the petitioners, told The Express Tribune that HRCP had written a letter to Sindh police to obtain details on the ongoing investigation and were informed via telephone about the JIT.

The counsel expressed concerns that the team had not made an attempt to cooperate with the petitioners.

Meanwhile, a provincial law official confirmed that substantial progress has not been made in the investigation process.
