Effective raids: Two gangsters, mugger killed in encounters

Two suspected members of the Lyari gang war were killed during an alleged encounter with the police in Lyari.

Two alleged gangsters and a mugger were killed during two separate encounters with the police in Lyari and Old City areas late on Thursday night.


Two suspected members of the Lyari gang war were killed during an alleged encounter with the police in Lyari. Police officials said that the encounter took place in Baghdadi when the police raided the gangsters' hideout. During the exchange of fire, two members of the gang war were killed, said the officials. The bodies were moved to Civil Hospital, Karachi, where they were identified as Farhan aka Mota and Ali aka Timatar.

According to SSP Shiraz Nazeer, the gangsters were involved in target killings, policemen killings and extortion. The cases were registered, while further investigations are underway.

Separately, another alleged street robber was encountered in Napier, Old City. Police officials claimed the encounter took place in Mehmood Shah Lane when a criminal was killed during the exchange of fire.  SSP Nazeer said that two of his companions managed to escape under the cover of fire. Nonetheless, the police have recovered weapons and looted cell phones from their possession.
