Road accident: Policeman killed, five others injured in mishap

KOHAT:


A policeman was killed and five others including the SHO of Gambat police were injured when their vehicle rammed into a tree after one of its tyres burst near Nakband Road on Thursday.


An official of Gambat police said SHO Razi Gul was on routine patrol in the area along with other policemen when a tyre of the police van burst as they reached Nakband area.


Constable Shaukat Jan, who was driving the van, was unable to control the vehicle which plowed into a tree, killing Jan and injuring five others.


Those injured are SHO Razi Gul, ASI Fayaz Khan, Head Constable Javed Hussain, constables Shabir Ahmad and Mudasir Ali.


The police official said the injured men were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital, Kohat while the deceased policeman was laid to rest in his native village of Ghorizai Kohat. Several senior police officials attended the funeral and praised Jan’s valour.


DIG of Kohat region, Dr Ishtiaq Marwar, and other police officials later visited the injured men at the hospital and directed the hospital’s administration to provide the best treatment.
