Powering through : Minister stresses govt’s resolve

2,400-megawatt (MW) Port Qasim and 2,400-MW Jamshoro coal projects have also begun.

MULTAN: State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali said the government was taking various steps to overcome the energy crisis.  While addressing the national flag hoisting ceremony here at Multan Electic Power Company (Mepco) headquarters, he said the government is fully focused on resolving the energy crisis. Work was in progress on more than 18 coal projects, Ali said, adding that 2,400-megawatt (MW) Port Qasim and 2,400-MW Jamshoro coal projects have also begun. He said these projects would be completed in two years. Energy would also be added to the national grid system from different small projects of 50MW each in the next year and a half. Meanwhile, Mepco Chief Executive Officer Muzaffar Ali Abassi said the company was taking all possible steps to improve its service.
