Khan has replaced one of the two special nominees Iqbal Umar.
The government issued a notification on Monday dissolving the Management Committee (MC) of the PCB and replacing it with the governing board. The governing board will constitute a chairman, four members of regions and departments and special nominees.
“Two members nominated by the patron in his discretion are Najam Sethi and ambassador Shaharyar Khan,” said the notification.
With Sethi declaring he would not contest the new elections, Khan emerges as a strong candidate for the position of PCB chairman with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s backing.
The government also nominated Justice (retd) Sair Ali as the new chief election commissioner with immediate effect as per the requirements laid down in part four of the constitution. Ali will work as the caretaker chairman until the elections are held.
“As per article 7 (2) of the new PCB constitution, the election commissioner shall take over as acting PCB chairman and shall ensure the conduct of elections within 30 days from the date of assumption of office,” the notification read.

Its soothing to see sir sheriyar khan back in the game. I hope he will save the PCB and in-tern PCT from the abyss which they they are half way through - fingers crossed.
Institutions are being destroyed. Everything is being run on the whims of a particular family. No room for Collective wisdom when the Sharifs are around.
I am glad to see sir Shahrayar Khan coming back. One of the most finest and brilliant people I have ever met.
How about give chance to a young cricketer this time? Spent cartridges cant produce a mild flame, let alone fire gunpowder.
It is unfortunate that bureaucracy has hijacked every institution in Pakistan. Almost every institution is unlucky that it is headed by a person who has little knowledge of field. Now It is cricket. Kis kis zakham ko ro'ain.
I thought Arif AbbasI was gearing up to be the next. AbbasI would have been a much better and stronger individual than Shehryar Khan.
Same old tired faces and failed policies. We will never learn and never move ahead.
I really hope he will use his past experiences to bring the much needed change and stability in the cricket board, if he is elected.
Ali Khan
Anything but Sethi.
