Hundreds of people participated in a walk as part of Independence Day celebrations on Saturday.
The walk, led by MNA Muhammad Akram Ansari, started from Zila Council Chowk and ended at Clock Tower Chowk after passing through the Circle Road and Katchery Bazaar.
The officials of various district departments, including Managing Director (MD) Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Syed Zahid Aziz, ADC Kanwar Ejaz Khaliq, ACs Shafi Khan, Malik Mushtaq Tiwana and representatives of civil society participated in the walk.
The participants were carrying national flags and chanting slogans.
Speaking on the occasion, Ansari congratulated the nation at the start of independence celebrations and said living nations always celebrated their national days with enthusiasm.
“The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government has decided to celebrate throughout the August this year to raise awareness among youth about the importance of independence. Events are going to be held to highlight various aspects of the independence movement which had culminated in the creation of Pakistan on August 14, 1947,” he said.
He said that a large number of people were participating in independence celebrations to express the sentiments of patriotism and national solidarity.
Ansari said Pakistan was passing through a difficult phase and the nation should present a united front to make the war against terrorism a success.
He paid rich tribute to martyred soldiers and said that the entire nation was standing with the army. He said all Pakistanis stood united.
“The present government is following revolutionary policies to steer the country out of the energy crisis and other issues,” he said.
In the end, special prayers were offered for the development and progress of the country, durable peace and national solidarity.
