BAHAWALPUR:

Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three members of a gang involved in stealing dozens of bikes from the city.

Earlier, Bahawalpur District Police Officer Sarfraz Ahmad Falki had directed City Circle DSP Riaz Hussain Bukhari to take action against criminals behind the increasing cases of motorcycle theft. Civil Lines Police started the investigation and traced the members of the gang.

They arrested Idrees, Ajmal and Sajjad Hussain. They confessed to stealing bikes from Khairpur Tamiwali, Yazman and Kehror Paka.

The accused told police that they would unlock bikes using a master key. Afterwards, they would take the bike to Quaid-i-Azam Colony, where they changed the appearance and number plates of the bike. Later, a man, Muhammad Tufail, who was based in Multan, would send bogus registration papers and number plates to them. These bikes were then taken to Multan, where they were sold to Sajjad Hussain. Police also seized Rs217,700 cash from the suspects. Police are searching for two others.
