Scorned: Man arrested for acid attack

The DPO also sent the family Rs10,000 aid.

BAHAWALPUR: Police on Monday arrested a man for throwing acid on a woman, who had refused to marry him. Shahbaz, a resident of Basti Rahim Bakhsh, had been engaged to Sonan Mai. Mai’s brother, Ghulam Abbas, was engaged to Shahbaz’s aunt. However, Mai and her family were reluctant to marry her to Shahbaz. He visited Mai’s house on Sunday night, when she was asleep and threw acid at her and fled. She was burnt in the face and neck. She was taken to the Shaikh Zayed Hospital. Rahim Yar Khan District Police Officer Sohail Zafar Chattha has taken notice of incident and directed DSP Javed Iqbal to visit the woman at the hospital. The DPO also sent the family Rs10,000 aid.
