Devoted: 510 prisoners observing aitekaf

LAHORE: Around 510 under-trial prisoners and convicts are observing aitekaf in 32 prisons of the province. Prisons Inspector General Mian Farooq Nazeer said that 48,808 prisoners were observing Ramazan fasts. “All jail superintendents have made special arrangements for prisoners to offer prayers and taraveeh during Ramazan,” he said. Nazeer said: “A comprehensive programme has been formed to impart religious education to inmates during their imprisonment under the supervision of trained religious teachers,” the official said. Nazeer said the jail superintendents had been directed to provide quality food to prisoners during sehr and iftar. Twenty-seven prisoners, including seven women, are observing aitekaf at Kot Lakhpat Jail.
