Resource allocation: ‘Millions being spent on projects across Cholistan’

BAHAWALPUR: Commissioner Captain Javed Akbar on Friday directed public officials to ensure the implementation of the chief minister’s development package for Cholistan. Akbar directed the officials to ensure the timely completion of the projects in a collaborative fashion.

The commissioner was addressing a meeting convened to review the implementation of the Cholistan development package. The progress of every project was analysed in the meeting.

Akbar said that it was the responsibility of the government to provide the people of Cholistan with at least basic amenities. He said that the chief minister had allocated adequate funds for this purpose.



Cholistan Development Authority Managing Director Iqbal Hussain said that Rs465 million would be spent on providing the people of the area better access to potable water.

A committee tasked with monitoring the transparency and quality standards of the projects was constituted on the direction of the commissioner. The committee is composed of public representatives and various officials from different departments. Contractors would have their dues cleared on receipt of a clearance from the committee.

Hussain said that Rs8 million had been spent on upgrading four water schemes in Cholistan.

He said that solar panels would also be installed along water pumps. Hussain said that work on 31 roads was in progress. Rs668 million had been allocated for the project.

The managing director said that applications for land allotment were being processed.

Hussain said that the chief minister had allocated Rs150 million towards the construction and upgrade of educational facilities across the region. He said education was a top priority of the government.
