Besides interns from across Pakistan, youth of Pakistani origin in the United States, Sweden, Canada, Britain, Germany, Singapore will also have access to the programme, said a press release issued on Friday.
The ministry has selected 75 aspirants out of over 5,000 applicants for the programme through which they will gain experience while working in a remote professional setting without being present physically at the job location.
The government for the first time has initiated the programme to integrate technology and bring institutional reforms through e-office enablement.
The interns will work with the Planning Commission on seven pillars — human and social capital, private sector-led growth, developing a competitive knowledge economy through value-addition, modern infrastructure and strengthened regional connectivity, democratic governance, institutional reforms and modernisation of public sector entities, energy, food and water security, and sustained indigenous inclusive growth — outlined under the “Vision 2025”.
The interns will also work on social media and other communication portals.
Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal said integrating youth in the policy-making process was a key to development, adding that the government has taken a number of initiatives in this regard.
Coordinator Hussain Nadim said the programme aimed at using the young talent in the policy-making process, besides providing them the opportunity to polish their skills as development leaders.
