DI KHAN:

The remains of a nine-year-old rape and murder victim were exhumed from a graveyard in DI Khan on Thursday. DNA samples and other tests will be sent to Islamabad.

Shumaila went missing from Zafarabad Colony on May 6. Her body was later found in Luchara Colony, close to her house. Soon after, according to a Dera Town policeman, an autopsy had confirmed that the minor had been raped. Her father Abdur Rehman had filed an FIR and asked the Peshawar High Court and other government officials to take note of inaction on the police’s part.

In the past week, the police arrested Nasir, one of Shumaila’s neighbours. On Thursday, Shumaila’s remains were exhumed in the presence of a judicial magistrate and a doctor.

The residents of Zafarabad Colony have demanded strict punishment for the culprits.
