The protest was led by K-P Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and most of the demonstrators were workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). A few members of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) also took part in the demonstration.
The K-P chief minister said that the province is getting only 1,300 megawatts (MW) instead of 2,000 MW.
Khattak demanded that cheap electricity be supplied to K-P and load-shedding be decreased.
"If Wapda doesn't solve this issue, I will not cooperate anymore," he also threatened.
He further remarked that the federal government does not have the right to run Wapda House as well as the government if it cannot solve this issue.
In a show of solidarity with the people of his province, Khattak on July 13 had vowed to lead demonstrations on July 16 if the issue of prolonged and widespread load-shedding was not resolved.
He had claimed the provincial government could eliminate the electricity shortage if the Centre handed over the control of power supply to K-P.

@Timorlane:
The exact figure is 350 dams.
PTI promised that its government would build 100s of small dams and other energy projects in KPK to make the province self sufficient in energy. Would the KPK government kindly let us know how much work has been done on those promised projects ?
Waiting since.............30th October, 2011 Waiting since.............25th December, 2011 Waiting since.............23rd March, 2013 (I'll never lie to my people speech by IK) :D Waiting since.............11th May, 2013
Lollllzzzzzz.....we'll just add 14th August to the never ending wait list. BTW, no Indians allowed to meddle in our political affairs.
My My. All the keyboard warriors of PMLN are on the rampage. Wait for 14th August.
@Nazir:
For KPK to sell electricity it would first need to invest heavily on power infrastructure, generate its the power and then sell it to the provinces. Does KPK have the resources to embark on such an ambitious project which would require foreign funding which in turn would mean furnishing of sovereign guarantees by the federal government which is not obliged to furnish? If KPK thinks that federal government would handover the existing infrastructure to KPK just because Pervaiz Khattak says so, then this ain't happening.
So until such time, KPK would have no choice but to get its wheat from Punjab and Punjab will make sure that it does not give KPK anymore wheat then required for fear of surplus wheat being smuggled to Afghanistan.
@Adnan Siddiqi,
If KP is to be divided into Hazara and Pakhtunkhaw to silence the "nationalists", Punjab should also be divided into at least 3 provinces - Potohar, Central Punjab, and Siraiki Belt - to forever silence those who think they own Pakistan.
Also, Sindh and Baluchistan should also be divided into smaller provinces.
BTW, why Khattak would want to be Shahbaz Sharif?
Shahbaz Sharif has corruption cases against him. Khattak, none.
Shahbaz is ruling Punjab since 20 years but has not fixed police, patwar, agriculture, nepotism and corruption in departments.
Khattak de-politicized the police, fixed patwar, etc within 1 year!
Shahbaz has done nothing save for some fancy projects which are waste of money.
Also, to be Shahbaz Sharif, Khattak will have to lie openly.
Having failed to govern KPK properly PTI is now trying to make Pakistan ungovernable.
This your/mine approach will lead to the dismemberment of Pakistan. To the great joy of IMRuntKhan. Exactly what he is willing to sacrifice to become a puppet PM, Knowing full well that he can never get elected.
The issue here is -
1) KP is not being given its due, agreed upon share of electricity. It is not that KP govt is asking for more than due share.
KP's due share is 2000MW agreed by fed government. It is being given only 1300MW.
2) The location of dams is important since these are considered natural resources of the province. Fed govt is not paying legal hydel profit to KP govt.
3) Some people here said KP doesn't contribute anything to Pakistan. While not withstanding the many contributions of the province, such people are anti-Pakistan and I call them traitors. They speak against provinces and advocate hatred. They want division!
@Adnan Siddiqi: I see, and both Sharif brothers were stupid enough not to bring it up, knowing full well what Khattak has been saying on TV for months?! Come on!
@Khushal Khan: Punjab keeping its wheat shall mean KPK will be able to keep its electricity and gas and sell sell on attractive prices which should earn it quite a bit and should be able to buy itself wheat from Punjab or any where...
A simple questions here.....has CM KPK taken up any of the complaints of his province on the forum of Council of Common Interests (CCI)? I can assure you that Khattak has not and all he has done is to get his pictures taken with PM and Shahbaz Sharif during these meetings.
The KPK should move a resolution for grant of provisional status to Hazara and PML-N in KPK Assembly should play an active role in this regard. Since Tarbela Dam is located in Hazara, it will be the perfect opportunity to shut down these turncoat nationalists who have got nothing better to do but to spew their nonsensical bile.
wow ... a chief minister damaging state property.....
you do this when you can't deliver any thing else
As if Shahbaz Shareef is some respected politician that others wish to be like!! Wasnt it Shahbaz Shareef who promised to resolve loadshedding in months??? :) These Shareef Baradran are one of the big reasons why Pakistan is where we are today.
The formula for getting uninterrupted power is simple......stop stealing electricity and pay your bills.
In order to be Shahbaz Sharif, one needs to first have a political identity. What's the political stature of Pervaiz Khattak besides the fact that he is a gazetted turncoat and has been an important member in the past of none other than the "Easy Load Party?"
Pervez Khattak needs to understand that the dams located in KPK were built with federal money and therefore federal assets. They have been ripping off loyalties from it since a long time. KPK has zilch industry and does not provide anything meaningful to the economy of Pakistan.
This is political gimmickry. If every province demands the maximum according to the provincial demand, of course they can eliminate load shedding at the expense of other provinces. Punjab can follow suit by keeping all the wheat and selling it at lower prices within the province. PTI is becoming synonymous with negative politics.
Khattak trying to be Shahbaz Sharif....
Khattak wants to be Shahbaz Sharif..... Working on his footsteps.......... Try to make your own recognition.
For your info ET nobody broke in to Wapda House. it was a peaceful protest.
