A fishing boat with five fishermen on board toppled over near the Korangi Creek early on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of two fishermen.
A boat from Shams Pir left the area early in the morning and toppled over due to the high tides. The body of one of the deceased fishermen, Majeed, was recovered, but the search for the body of the other one, Suleman, is still underway.
The Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF), while expressing sorrow over the accident, demanded that the government should announce a special package during the ban on fishing. "The fishermen do nothing during the off season but their families still need to be fed," said PFF chairman Muhammad Ali Shah. "The government should announce packages so that they are not forced to risk their lives."
