Missing cleric found dead

Police said Syed Waliullah Shah was returning home from a mosque in 2008 when unidentified people kidnapped him.

BANNU: The body of a cleric who went missing six years ago from Bannu city was found in a field in Peran Daud Shah on Tuesday.

Cantonment police official Jalil said Syed Waliullah Shah was returning home from a mosque in 2008 when unidentified people kidnapped him. Shah’s whereabouts had not been known since then.

However, on Tuesday, a passer-by spotted a body in Peran Daud Shah and informed the police who arrived at the site and shifted the body to the police station, said Jalil.

He added that a member of Shah’s family identified the deceased and the body was handed over to him.

In a separate incident, militants attacked a check post in Frontier Region Bannu in the early hours of the morning. Fortunately, no human loss occurred. A security forces official said around 3am two men on a motorbike stopped near a check post in Teen Tanga and opened fire. He added the officials on duty shot at the militants in retaliation, forcing them to flee.
