MUZAFFARABAD: An Azm-i-Azadi (resolve of freedom) conference was held on Saturday to renew the resolve to  support those in Indian Kashmir struggling for freedom from Indian oppression — with some supporters calling for an en masse breaching of the Line of Control.

The conference was organised by the Azad Kashmir chapter of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) to “pay homage to the martyrs of Jammu”. It expressed distrust in US President Obama regarding a resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

“America, who has been defeated in Afghanistan and Iraq will never support a just solution to the Kashmir issue and US’ defeat will be the defeat of India and all its allies,” observed the JI chief, Munawar Hassan. Addressing the participants, he said he does not want America to play the role of a mediator on the issue because it is highly likely to support India, which he declared as a US strategic partner.

The US, he said, has “always favoured India on the Kashmir issue”. He alleged that Indian and US secret agencies were involved in bombing shrines in Pakistan and India and that both countries were financing and backing terror attacks against the country.
