JAMRUD:

Unidentified gunmen shot and severely wounded Haji Iqbal Afridi, the cousin of MNA Alhaj Shah Jee Gul, in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency.

Roshan Mehsud, a political administration official, said the incident took place late Saturday night when Afridi was on his way to Gudar, Jamrud from Peshawar. The assailants ambushed his vehicle and shot him multiple times.

The official added that khasadar personnel rushed the injured man to the hospital. A search is under way for the gunmen.

Meanwhile, a high-intensity bomb was defused in Shakhas area on Sunday. Mehsud said the bomb was planted outside the house of tribesman Taos Khan, but was spotted by a pedestrian.

He added that the tribesman informed BDU officials, who arrived at the site and defused the device, which was planted in a canister and contained five kilogrammes of explosives.
