Surprise visit: ‘Ramazan Bazaars must provide relief to people’

“The purpose of the Rs5 billion relief package is to ensure that quality food is available for consumers,” Punjab Chief Secretary Naveed Akram Cheema said on Wednesday.


He said officials should ensure that fruits and vegetables were available at Ramazan Bazaars at affordable prices. He said it was important to obtain feedback from the consumers to improve service delivery.

He was talking to newsmen after a surprise visit to Ramazan Bazaars in Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib and Shahkot.

The chief secretary checked weight of flour bags at Ramazan Bazaars at Pir Bahar Shah Chowk and Khadim Hussain Road.

He said health officials should ensure all Ramazan Bazaars maintained hygiene and regular fogging of the markets should be done.

Sheikhupura DCO Ali Jan Khan, Assistant Deputy Collector Syeda Kalsoom Hye and Sheikhupura assistant commissioner accompanied the chief secretary.

The chief secretary also visited the Ramazan Bazaar at Grain Market in Nankana Saheb.

Cheema checked the quality, prices and supply of edibles in Ramazan bazaar in Shahkot. He also asked consumers about quality of edibles and facilities being provided to them. Talking to newsmen, the chief secretary said profiteering and hoarding would not be allowed.

He said provincial ministers, elected representatives and officers were conducting surprise visits to Ramazan bazaars to provide relief to the people. He also inspected the flour stalls set up by the Food Department and checked its quality and weight.

He went to fair price shops and appreciated the arrangements by district administration.
