Internal wrangling: Roghani appointed president of PTI’s K-P women’s wing

PESHAWAR: Differences have surfaced in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf over the appointment of Meher Taj Roghani as the women’s wing president of the party’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chapter by party chief Imran Khan.

The notification was issued less than a month after another notification in which Samina Abid had been appointed to the same post. Abid claims she is still the president, fuelling dissent within the party.

“This is a conspiracy against me. We had scheduled a meeting, but all those scheduled to attend were called by them [the opponents] and asked not to attend,” Samina said. “Even I was told not to attend the meeting at the party’s office.” Samina maintains that the notification was misleading.

The party’s office in charge for Imran Khan, Naeemul Haq, said Abid was no longer the president of the women’s wing. He added that Roghani has been appointed on the chairman’s directives, which he was entitled to issue unless elections were held.

Haq also said that Abid’s notification was not valid and that Roghani would now handle the women’s wing’s affairs. He said elections were expected to be held in the next three months.
