Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) legislators have directed accusations at the party’s central media office of allegedly spying on PTI members in the National Assembly, as well as provincial assemblies, The Express Tribune learnt.
According to some lawmakers, some people in the central media office are keeping a track of the cell phones of PTI members. They further alleged that the instructions to do so have been issued by someone at the centre.
“I am not doing anything I need to hide,” said a PTI lawmaker, requesting anonymity. “But I do not understand why anybody needs to pry into my personal life like this.” A party insider claimed the team members receive a copy of all call records and check it thoroughly. He added that they also search most dialled and received calls to see who the legislators have been in touch with.
When contacted, the central leadership dismissed the claims as baseless and said they do not indulge in such practices. “All of this is completely untrue,” said the office in charge of PTI chief Imran Khan, Naeemul Haq. “Whoever is making these claims should bring the information to us so that we can respond.”
