Religious obligation: Muslims urged to pay Zakat

KARACHI: Famous religious scholar Maulana Kokab Noorani Okarvi, while outlining the importance of Zakat, said that it is necessary for the stability of economy that all Muslims must pay Zakat. He stressed that a certain economic balance can be achieved in society if everyone starts paying Zakat. Noorani said that Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) had highlighted the importance of Zakat by announcing a jihad against those who had rejected it. He said it is the third main pillar of Islamic belief. Replying to a question regarding the payment of Zakat, Noorani said that Zakat can’t be given to one’s mother, father, grandparents, sons, daughters and grandchildren but it is advisable to disburse it among close relatives first. He said timely payment of Zakat can help end the problems of our society.
