Security measures: ‘Handle mail, parcels with special care to avoid incidents’

KARACHI:

Sindh home secretary Dr Niaz Ali Abbasi has directed all government officials to be extremely cautious in opening mails and parcels.

The directive was issued in the light of intelligence reports that terrorists are planning attacks on government offices. In a letter to the administrative secretaries, Abbasi said that the ongoing operation against militants and terrorists demands extra vigilance and preventive measures not only by law enforcement agencies but also in government offices.

The home secretary said that all officials should adopt special measures to handle mails and parcels in order to avoid any untoward incidents. He has advised that arrangements should be made in all departments and offices for proper scanning of letters and parcels through electronic detectors before they are opened to avert all possible losses.
