Transparency International (TI) Pakistan has asked Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Tariq Bajwa to take action on the tax evasion case related to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi, particularly in reference to his Manhattan property in the US.

In a letter dated June 30, 2014, the TI Pakistan Chairman Sohail Muzzafar has also asked the FBR to carry out a detailed scrutiny of Sethi’s other family members to examine the increase in their wealth vis-a-vis their declared incomes.

Referring to its letter dated March 13, 2014, the TI said it had asked the FBR chairman for actions following more recoveries on tax evasion in Najam Sethi’s case, on which FBR is reported to be delaying actions. The letter also refers to a 25 May 2014 news item in which the FBR had clarified it had got rescinded the order through which Najam Sethi was granted Rs10.625 million tax exemption.
