KARACHI: Upon his return from a week-long International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting in Melbourne, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi emphasised Pakistan’s involvement in the critical transitional phase of international cricket during the structural evolvement of the ICC.

The ‘Big Three’ revolution consisting of India, Australia and England has taken over world cricket, but Pakistan pulled off a diplomatic coup after obtaining a seat in ICC’s executive committee, in which the likes of South Africa, New Zealand and others were neglected. Pakistan also received the right to appoint an ICC president in 2015.

“It’s an important achievement for us that Pakistan will be involved in all changes that will take place in international cricket over the next two years,” said Sethi at a press conference in Lahore on Monday.

“There is no ‘Big Three’; instead, important committees have been made in the ICC which will look after international cricket. Pakistan has been able to get a place in the most powerful committee of all, while we’ll have an ICC president next year as well. Thus, we’ll be a part of important decisions that will be made in the coming months.”

It should be mentioned here that Pakistan was facing isolation as former chairman Zaka Ashraf had initially decided to oppose the formation of ‘Big Three’.

‘Pakistan-India series bigger than Ashes’

Sethi added that the Pakistan-India series is bigger than the Ashes, and the PCB would host India whenever both governments reach an agreement. Till then, home tours of Pakistan will be played in the UAE.

“The Pakistan-India series is bigger than the Ashes and the world recognises it. India hasn’t played Pakistan in the past despite a scheduled series and I’ve been able to convince them to compensate for those series as well,” he claimed.

“Now we can earn up to Rs30 billion from our four home series against India.”
