Welding accident: Three injured in tanker explosion

NOWSHERA:

Three people were severely injured on Sunday when an oil tanker exploded in Taru Jabba, Nowshera in the middle of welding work being done on the body.

According to police official Muhammad Waqas Khan, the explosion occurred at Taru Jabba Oil Depot while repairs were being carried out on the vehicle. Official Muhammad Waqas said the driver Altaf Hussain and cleaner Safdar Khan had come to the depot to get a leak fixed in the tanker.

When the repairman Sadiq started to weld the vehicle to fix the leak, the vehicle exploded and injured all three.

The injured were rushed by residents of the area to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.

The police official added Sadiq told the police he did not know the spark of his welding equipment would reach the oil inside the tanker, causing the flammable material to catch fire.

In April, two people burnt to death in Tarnol, near Islamabad. The tanker was loaded with oil when the driver and assistant took it to a workshop for welding. Sparks set fire to the oil, causing the explosion and two fatalities.
