Media freedom: PFUJ meets Egypt’s envoy to Pakistan

Ambassador clarifies freedom of press in Egypt is guaranteed by law.

ISLAMABAD: Egypt’s Ambassador to Pakistan Said Hindam received a delegation of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) on Saturday. It was presided by. The delegation led by PFUJ president Afzal Butt presented the ambassador a letter concerning the trial of Al-Jazeera journalists in Egypt. Hindam briefed them about how Egypt is committed to media freedom and explained the allegations that the journalists have been facing in the court of law. For him, they were acts to destabilise Egypt. The ambassador clarified that freedom of press in Egypt is guaranteed by law and that its violation led to those journalists to undergo a trial. A paper about the accusations and the court verdicts was presented to the delegation with a strong note that the faith of Egypt is only determined by the will of the Egyptian people.
